What's Involved in Building a Custom Site?

Building a professional custom design website involves many details, steps, and tasks which are the determining factors in pricing. Therefore, below is a list of some of the details, steps, and tasks that we take in the process of building a custom design website that promotes a strong brand identity.

Business Assessment

What's the business? The brand? Target markets? Business history? Marketing plan and budgets? How does the website fit into the overall business, etc., etc.? Does the business have other marketing channels such as social media, e-mail marketing, off-line advertising, etc.

Wireframe - Page Blueprint

These are sketches / designs showing how pages will be laid out. For example, where should the logo and main navigation go, how does the home page layout compare to content pages, blog pages, the events calendar and forms. Ideally, each type of page have a layout unique to the page type

Graphic Design - Template Layout

This step involves creating the graphical interface using wireframe guides. In addition, colors, imagery, branding look and feel, messaging, site functionality, user experience, etc. are all apart of this phase of building a custom site.

Responsive programming

A responsive website is designed and coded in such a way that it is able to adapt to different screen sizes and devices which makes them look great on desktop computers and mobile devices too.

Website programming

The graphic design files get "cut up" and assembled using HTML (for page formatting) and CSS (for styling) that build the templates or shell of the site. Good HTML and website formatting is a result of efficient programming that delivers the website quickly and consistently across a variety of web browsers.

Navigation structure - site layout

This requires building a sitemap showing the site structure. It has to be built while keeping in mind the user experience, product/ selling features, search engine optimization, etc. A good site layout makes it easy for website visitors to get where they need to be and makes it easy for search engines to index and "understand" your website.

Content ENTRY - Complete Page Layout

Write/edit, re-edit and check the text unique to each page. Rinse and repeat. Select and include images and rich media such a video. Layout the page so that it looks attractive and provides a great user experience. Write for website visitors first, but also for search engine optimization.

keyword Development

This has to do with thinking of the business and the website structure. What keywords should be used to structure the site for users, the company, and most importantly search engines? Depending on the business, sometimes extensive keyword research has to be performed using tools such as Google AdWords, WordTracker, SEMrush, etc. Also other web / digital analytics tools such as Google Analytics or Site Catalyst has to be utilized.

Platform - CMS

A content management system (CMS) is a computer application that allows publishing, editing, modifying, organizing, deleting, and maintaining content from a central interface. Such systems of content management provide procedures to manage workflow in a collaborative environment. We'll recommend, based on your business needs and objectives, the right Content Management System (CMS) platform that will maximize your investment.

SEO Programming

To help a website obtain good ranking in the search engines, it is necessary to add page META information such as page title tags (very important), page descriptions, keywords (not important for SEO but often helpful for a website's internal search engine), and format site structure for both internal and external links. SEO programming also maximize the ability for search engines to index the sites and pages.

Web Server Setup and Registration

This phase has to do with setting up the web server, registering domains (i.e. the website addresses), setting up the domain for SEO using canonical programming, setting up and optimizing web hosting, and often configuring email accounts.

Digital/Web Analytics

In order to know how a website is performing it is necessary to set up and implement measurement tools. These valuable tools allow our customers to measure the number of visitors coming to their websites, how long the visitors stayed, the IP address of the visitors, and other important data and demographics. Great analytical tools establish key performance indicators (KPIs), dashboard reporting, etc.
